The Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award for children's books was established in 1979 by the Mankato Friends of the Library association. In 1977, a wing of the Mankato Public Library was named for her and a mural (unveiled in 1980) depicts her life in Mankato. She had one daughter, Merian, born in 1931. Lovelace’s other short stories and novels include, Early Candlelight (1929), a novel set in Fort Snelling, Minnesota, and One Stayed at Welcome (1934), coauthored with her husband Delos W. She is most well-known for her Betsy-Tacy series, published from 1940 to 1955, composed of ten books for young readers set in early twentieth-century Mankato, Minnesota. Lovelace attended the University of Minnesota from 1910-12.
